wildfowler.250
I've shot on a farm just behind my house for years and occasionally drive up with my decoying gear,(rather than hike and get the exercise ). Basically there's one house on its own on the left hand side of the farm track. I quite often drive up and there's crows on a field in the right hand side,(safe backstop). Now I've generally just driven past them because I don't want to bother the guy from a noise aspect. He's also RSPB and although I'm sure he's ok with me shooting crows,(he's never complained before) I don't want to create a problem. Now my main question is how close to a house can you use a rifle? I'm shooting away from him and its safe so the only issue would be where would I stand legally. Ie safety is fine, it's just a case of a complaint. Normally I don't bother out of politeness but its nice to know where you stand? I'm in Scotland if that makes any odds. Would appreciate if anyone had any info
Dougy
What rifle are you using your not going to get big numbers, compared with a shot gun, but you have permision. So as long as you use your common sense as far as safe shooting goes i personaly dont see an issue.
Dekers
I don't know if there are subtle or major differences in Scotland to England/Wales. But, south of the border you can legally stand right on your boundary. Other issues may crop up, such as noise disturbance (public health issue I believe). al4x
the best option is usually the one of least disturbance, start using a 22-250 outside their back gate then you can expect the landowner to field the first call and the police the second. Best option is to use something quiet or be a reasonable distance away, the only alternative is to talk to the householder and get a feel for their views. You might just find they have removed all the nestlings from their garden and they will let you use what you like as close as possible
wildfowler.250
Cheers for the replies I normally don't bother but its annoying to drive right past a hoodie in a field. Usually it's the HMR or .250 as al4x said. The guys given me no hassle over the years and I'll likely just avoid the front of his house but its good to know where you stand. As they say, prevention is the best cure. Edited April 26, 2013 by wildfowler.
