FalconFN
I had a quick go at making a very basic cold smoker with an old pallet and some bits and pieces from the shed. It looks ok for the half hour or so it took to build. I just need a good way of producing the smoke now as the Quality Street tin/tea light idea I had didn't produce enough smoke. Any ideas gratefully recieved. Edited April 26, 2013 by FalconFN

hedd-wyn
Tidy! I've got all that material knocking about as well. Thanks for sharing

bi9johnny
Look on you tube for how to make a cold smoke generator. They are the best way to produce smoke and regulate the smoke. They are real easy to make and for no cost
FalconFN
I like this, have you used it yet ? Cheers, not yet as I need a decent source of smoke. I've had a look at the ones on you tube but I don't want anything that needs plugging in so I'll hash together something similar to the ProQ smoker box and try that. Paul223
nice, will be interested to see the finished cold smoker
Muddy Funker
I'd just buy the ProQ if you've saved the money building the smoker. I've got one and it's 100% brilliant! Nice work by the way.
Jonty
That looks a top bit of fettling mate. I'm a big fan of the pro q but if you didn't want to go down that rouute you could always put a couple of charcoal briquettes in a biscuit tin with some wood chips, or just try ignighting some chips with a blow torch and seeing if they smoulder. Alternatively you could use a bigger heat source than a tea light - the fat in something like bacon won't render till 80 degrees C so as long as you kept the temp below 60 degrees C you would still effectively be cold smoking. Thanks for the ideas, I have a hot smoker (metal box type with 2 meths burners) so I may try using one burner over a biscuit tin full of oak sawdust, it's not a permanent solution as they don't burn for that long. I will probably invest in a ProQ but I thought I could hash together something from some old plastering corner reinforcing first, but I can't find any in my shed!
