WinchesterDave
My dad acquired and brought home a full size gun cabinet today it looks to be quite old, so i was wondering what you guys think of it and whether it'd be okay to install? current safety spec? the locks don't look anything like as good as my current one, but the reason i would like this one is because my current one is only half size and i have to take my guns apart every time i put them in, and un screw the recoil pad off my sx3 every time and its a bit of a faf! its a bit strange looking also because what appears to be the front of it (the door) would actually be the back because that where the holes for the bolts are, ive not seen one like this before. so in essence the entire cabinet swings instead of the door its self. the third and fourth photos are the lock and lock slot, respectively. the fifth photo is of the holes (6 in total on the cabinet) for the bolts, they are a lot smaller in diameter to my current one. your views on this would be much appreiciated, Regards, Dave. WinchesterDave
sorry about the quality of the photos i think i edited them too much! they were to big to upload initially now they are too small, but if you could try and give your advice it'd help. goodo123
If the whole thing swings out then their may be an issue as you could argue it can be used as a leverage to defeat the lock. Hard to tell from photos tho
WinchesterDave
i see were you are coming from, image number two, if you picture the 'door' on the right bolted to the wall, and when it is closed it'll look no different to a normal cabinet will it? countryman
Its just not worth it , all though it looks like it has at some time been used to store guns, i don't think plod will like it, and do you really want them having to tell you that. Gordon R
I remember these being sold by Budget Guns and Tackle years ago. The locks are the type you would find on a desk - very easily by-passed. I would be surprised if the Police passed it. I would be a bit concerned if my guns were only being protected by this cabinet. A burglar with a very small screwdriver would get in within seconds. WinchesterDave
Thank you for the replies, it is/was the locks bothering me about the cabinet.

Gordon R
The locks are the type you find on desks or toolboxes. Flimsy lock, with a flimsy metal hook / lever on the back.
WinchesterDave
Yer I think the same, there isn't point doing much with it, probably just get rid of it now, but thanks all for the input! Dave.
