While I was at one of my local pieces of permission a few weeks back I got talking to one of the lads changing the gear over behind his New Holland tractor in the yard, just general chit chat and whatever. When another unit pulled and a lad I hadn't seen before jumped out and started to ask what I was doing and where I shoot, at this point I asked who he was and where he had come from thinking had I upset someone !!

It turned out he was renting fields from the farm to grow spuds. after a while we got talking about the falconry and ferreting I do alongside the shooting when he asked if I wanted to shoot over a bit of land he had in Cheshire and like a shot shook his hand and got his address and tel number.

Anyway today I took a ride out and met up with him at his little HQ for a look around, well it turned into a mammoth treck on his quads B) , 3 1/2 hrs later we returned to the yard after going over nearly 3000 acres of rape fields, 2000 acres of wheat spread over 4 farms then he said oh I forgot one follow me........................a 20 min drive and another 5 fields full of rape and a few sneaky mr Fox sitting by the hedgerows.

He then gave me the code for the quad shed, told me to help myself to materials for hides if I needed any and to let him know where I wanted any bales or materials putting ready to knock hides up :whistling:

I did ask does anyone else shoot the land and his reply shocked me........NO I keep getting let down by the so called pigeon boys around here !!! Happy days He signed my permission letter shook my hand said good luck and don't forget the Rabbits they are out about and hour before dusk they need sorting  Oh and don't forget we need to go to south Cheshire to my other 2500 farm my brother runs for me when you have time...........oh yeah I thought seriously time your having a giraffe ...

it feels like all my Xmases have come at once B) a few slabs to be ordered next week and a stock up on the .22 for the bunny bashing....

Ps Ive already started to get a few of the boys ready for the onslaught lol......A day tomoz with the guns is booked already

Thanks for all the comments folks, I went out at half four this morning to get a good recy done see where the bunnies were sitting and chomping away and to look out over the fields to see where the birds were coming from on one piece of land ,as very few birds were about yesterday. Had a very productive morning :) as you will see on my other thread in reports with pictures.

I may need some help later in the year so will keep you all posted and will definitely be asking advice from the senior members regarding the decoying ect as this will be my first season on the pigeon
