Wildfowler12
Morning all, I'm looking to buy some new safety glasses. I don't shoot clays often and usually just use my Boole safety specs from work when I do. But the sun was so bright last time I could hardly see a thing on some stands. So, I've come across loads of different coloured lenses and glasses that come with 5 sets etc, I guess each of them have the advantages depending on light conditions, but is there a best 'all rounder' lense? I tend to see a few orange ones when I'm at the clay ground, but I'm not sure the orange/yellow will dim the brightness on sunny days? As per, I'm hoping the PW massive can provide some answers or reccomendtions. Thanks
Mangled99
I bought the topgun set from ebay for around £20, they come with 5 different coloured lenses and have an insert for prescription lenses if you need it. They do the job for me and are fairly comfortable. That way you can use a dark lense when its bright and the yellow or orange lense when it is overcast and experiment with the other colour lenses to suit you. TIGHTCHOKE
The coloured lenses are there to brighten blaze clays in the case of the orange. The yellow will raise the contrast for black clays against trees. The violet and brown lenses are for bright days and the black lens for when looking towards the sun. Whichever set you buy, make sure you get some clear lenses, so that even on the dull days you are wearing something to protect your very valuable eyes! DAVE_B
Can't add much more, other than 1 pair doesn't work for everything. I started with a Browning set and another multi lens set and they were fine but have now settled on the more expensive option which is two pairs of Zeiss shooting frame, one had a polarised dark lens for the bright days (finally getting some use in the sunshine) and a pair of yellow in the same style frame this covers all of those overcast and darker winter days. This combination works well for my eyes, the other lens which appears to be popular around the grounds in Vermilion (red). However for cost the multi lens sets work well, it can be a bit of a pain having to keep changing lenses during a shoot so one of the sets of multiple pairs can also be worth considering. Good Luck! seeker
Whilst it's a personal preference thing here's a reasonable guide to colours. .. www.sportglasses.com/content/General_Info_Recommendations.htm Do check that what you buy is a safety lense (kitemark / BSxxx etc) not just coloured plastic, it could make a difference! BERETTA687
I got a set of ziess shooting glasses with transition lenses, they change with the sun and brightness. I find them great for all shooting as they change depending on the light,I find them great for clay shooting, game shooting and driving in the car haha, the girlfriend wont le me wear them in town though, dont know why as I look like tom cruise from top gun. They have toughened saftey lenses which is most important. Seems since ive started wearing them im a magnet for broken clays when I can hit them. Paul T
Personally I find orange/yellow the easiest all rounder. I've tried a few but I actually find the adjustment on the Caterpillar safety glasses makes them very comfortable.

Wildfowler12
Cheers for the responses, I think I'll get some orange ones and keep my shades handy for the few stands that are in the sun!
