pointerman
I dont think its bored ,but i think it cant wait its turn when retrieving,it lives indoors, and gets attention a lot of the timei,so when it dos'nt get its way it whines. I get him to move the dog when it whines as you said it can get anouying after a while.I have told him we have got to stop it because people wont put up with it on shoots. B725
If it cannot wait its turn to retrieve then its never been taught that it cannot fetch them all.your mate needs to step back a little and teach the dog it can only retieve when told and has to ignore the rest. jeffd
Does the dog whine when training with just the owner ? if no simple solution. If the dog always whines then chances are it will always do it, I am not confident that they even know they are doing it, I have not known of anyone actually stopping this behaviour completely, yes you can mask it with chews or some other way but eventually they start to whine when being kept still or sitting. I had a cocker who would bloddy chat to me all day when sitting in a hide unless he was collecting birds and you could not use him for picking up as you would not want to infect the other dogs, but on our small rough shoot where he was on the go all day you never heard him. He was a cracking little dog steady as a rock with a good nose so I just lived with it and kept him away from the posh shoots.
