im deciding on a scope to get, i want something that will work well in low light aswel as light situations. Also something that is good at hmr ranges.

Im going to be doing shooting in the day, dusk and also lamping in the night so something that works well under a lamp is a must.

Iv been looking at some of the hawk nite eye scopes.

I have about £100-£120 to play with, obviously the less the better.

I have a Hawke 3-9X50 with illuminated reticule on my air arm 410 air rifle and it is fine with the lamp though if you can I would go for something a little better on the HMR and maybe upto 12 times mag for the longer shots.

I am going through the same process and the gun shop suggested a 5-12 X 56 to me at about £200 but for the life of me I cant remember make at the moment........

That looks perfect to me mate!! :stupid:

I have a 3-9*50 ir hawke nighteye and a 6.5-20*50 hawke night eye and they bother are brilliant scopes!

I would of thought a 16* mag is better like the link you showed!

Do you mean the 20*

Do you think i would get away with the 16* for use with a .17, what sort of effective aiming range can i achive do you think?

For low light I would consider better glass than the hawke. I have used them on loads of rifles and they are extremely good for the money, but the low light performance is a bit dodgy.

Ideally you want the biggest objective lens with the best glass you can, for the money stated you can't get exactly what you want so its a compromise.

Nice little article in sporting shooter last month about scopes, talked about "exit pupil" and how it is important to match the exit pupil size of the scope with that of the human eye - if the scope's exit pupil size is lower than that of the eye, then you are not using all of it to gather light which means to some extent you are wasting what light there is, something you can ill afford to do...

Pay that little bit extra and have a look at the Bushnell, Burris or Nikon perhaps

The pound is very very strong at the moment so take advantage of the market and buy from USA

Just another option
