For shooting in the dimpsey or at night with a lamp, it boils down to the magnification that you prefer. The magic figure is 7. If you divide the object lens (44 and 50) by whatever magnification level you prefer, you really want to be looking for 7 as a result to obtain the best light gathering capability of the scope to transfer to your eye pupil. Prefer 6 mag' then 44 is good, 7, then 50 is better. You'll then understand why 8 by 56 is highly regarded. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
