Mentalmac
Hi guys, I have a marlin 917 vs in the HMR flavour. Very good fun, except It had a trigger job by the old owner and I noted that it could potentially slam fire, so it went to a gunsmith who had to weld a tiny amount back on to the sear. He did all the trigger work and never removed bolt apparently. Now, I can't retract bolt far enough to cycle a round or take bolt out (I do know how to as always have kept bolt separate). The bolt only goes back as far as the last inch which seems slightly wider part of bolt, which seems as though it's getting stuck (hitting something). Can anyone advise what this could be? As wether I could sort this myself rather than paying a gunsmith to ruin it more? :-) many thanks
markws80
Take it back to the gunsmith and tell HIM to sort it out!
Dougy
Return it to the smith that supposedly fixed it. He obviously hasn't.
fieldwanderer
Can you take the trigger off as a unit on them? You'll need to take stock off to find out. If you can, that'll get the bolt out and you could look for anything obvious. Check the bolts not just catching the stock first though. Having said that, you paid someone to do a job for you and they've not done it right, they should be the ones sorting it - not you.
NickB65
Take it back and show the gun smith the issue and he will fix it....
Mentalmac
Cheers guys. May take stock off later and just look if it's anything really obvious, but if it's anything harder than that - I'll take it to him and get him to sort it for free. Underdog
What a muppet,,,, any welding to build a sear back up will most probably of ruined the hardening of the sear and is to be scrapped! You need new sears pal and someone who knows how to stone sears that allow full sear engagment and spring weight! Muppet trail this! Good luck. U. lincs1963
Dont know if this is any help but- how are your scope rings attached? Dovetails or screwed onto the action? If they are screwed on one of the screws may be too long and going through enough to stop the bolt withdrawing. I have seen this happen on a howa 1500, but the other way around (rings screwed on with bolt out and then bolt would not go all the way forward into battery. Hope this helps, Neil
