Raptor1971
Having arranged to take a PW Member Kes out for a day on a little spot of land ( how much walking Phil ) that holds plenty of pigeon and other good game and vermin we eventually got together today. After Kes kindly came out and showed me a few pointers on the land a couple of weeks ago regarding decoying we were looking forward to a days outing after spotting the flight lines ect and plenty coming and going when we first met up. So today was the day, a lovely summers day plenty of rape and barley to decoy around, we got the hide set up and decoys out and magnet going and settled in ready for action. It didn't take long for a couple to skirt around the set up but stayed their distance and dropped over the wood, then in one came straight into the pattern Phil got straight into action and bang, bang he missed lol, if he'd waited any longer it would have landed on us . Well it looked promising and we setted in again they kept their distance and that was the 1 pigeon that cam into the pattern from the flight line. We decided to have walk around and do a bit of rough shooting for a while thinking they would be interested later. we dropped 2 crows and a magpie, but had plenty of sport on the edge of the wood and before Phil says anything I missed an absolute sitter too . With the flight lines quiet we decided to get the rifles out and settle down on a nicely overgrown bank giving plenty of cover overlooking a meadow and wooded area where we had seen fox movement the first night we met up. Phil got his 223 set up on his tripod and within 5 minutes of me calling the first one appeared on the opposite bank under a oak tree , without any hesitation Phil dropped it . We then had another one out under the same tree within 15 mins but it spotted us and sloped off into the thick bracken and ferns before Phil could get his shot. with this we went for lunch and checked the decoy situation out but found it as lively as a morgue ! So it was another attempt at the fox, off we went and set up again on the same bank but different spot and within 2 minutes of using the caller it appeared 160 - 170 yrds to the right on the edge of the field , crack first shot missed and it seemed to jog not run across the field into nettles. We persevered and I went to speak to the farmer who was out and about when I heard the crack again, Phil had dropped it , it had come back out and was making it's way back where it came from, it didn't make it home lol. The pics below show the first one dropped at about 140 yrds at the top, and the second one dropped at 160 - 170 below the small one. Just to add thanks for your company Phil and your more than welcome to join me anytime you wish. It's a pleasure having your company. Foxes are a great substitute though
Raptor1971
Cheers Welsh 1 , Theres been no shortage on this piece of land until today of all days, I think they had an early morning feast and were roosting over in the woods as we did disturb a few when we went for a walk for little while. It makes a change to be able to call them in during mid afternoon rather than been out all night lol

Kes
The day was exceptionally warm and we must have walked miles. The pigeons seemed to be finding shade and staying there despite all attempts to miss them. A great day for me, plenty of chat and quiet moments waiting for the foxes. Sean is good company, generous to a fault, and the type of chap you would all want to shoot with. I wont be very popular at Sean's though as I think he may be looking for a fox rifle soon ! Thanks again Sean - we'll do it again soon and maybe the next write-up will have pigeon on the menu. My sincere thanks for good day in good company. (still looks like a cub but im unsure from the pic ) more to go at for sure Well done We had the same feeling but Sean reckoned, rightly I think, that they were actually from the same litter, one less developed - teeth were exactly the same length condition etc. We hadnt heard of major differences before but this looks like it - weighed a lot more too. Both vixens. Edited June 23, 2013 by Kes
