TaxiDriver
Im now on my 4th nightshift as a night controller for a breakdown and recovery operator, and (touchwood) it has temporarily quietened down a bit, Im waiting on updates on jobs that are being done currently, praying the phone doesn't ring with anything too complicated and the turbo mail stays silent, Reflecting on the jobs I've had so far, It really suprises me, How many people, 'wrong fuel' their vehicles, cannot put a spare wheel on have no lock nut for locking wheel nuts, don't have the correct bolts for use with so called 'space saver' spare wheels As an admission, Some years ago I did put petrol in my diesel Escort van at 2.30AM <blush>
Psyxologos
have no lock nut for locking wheel nuts, So, what do you do in that case, if you do not mind me asking?
Vince Green
My cousins husband was an AA man. I can remember talking to him about it once, he said the majority of breakdowns were caused by zero maintenance. Never checking the simplest of things like has it got any oil in it, lots of cars never get serviced ever.
karpman
So, what do you do in that case, if you do not mind me asking? Dynomec for the hard ones the irwin style sockets won't remove you know the ones with the rolling collars. Then a lot of hammering and a lot of swearing lol. TaxiDriver
So, what do you do in that case, if you do not mind me asking? most times if its roadside then it's recovery job to nearest Kwik Fit (or similar) When I worked in the tyre trade we had sockets with a very coarse reverse thread inside so as you gunned it on, it screwed onto the nut/bolt head and bit into it, Others were simply chiselled away bit by bit

pigeon controller
I seem to remember using a GATORGRIP on my sons friends car after he lost the proper lock nut key.
houlsby
Had a locker removed the other week. They used a softer metal than the nut which was preformed and tapped in. Was well impressed. It's always the simplest things with breakdowns. Iv driven hundreds of miles before just to flick a breaker back on or, and this is no joke, switch something on at the socket. General public are morons. I always use the aa for anything car related if I'm out, even pumping tyres back up if I get a flat. I don't pay all that money not to use it! I have a guy who does 4nights a week in the taxi and Im doing pre bookings in the 8 seater subject to them not clashing with my 3 nights on The 'night controller' role is done working from home via a remote link to the companies server and their phones diverted to a supplied mobile, varies from night to night as to how many times Im disturbed.
