alexl
i have to say this is sort of how i remember it wasn't there a doctor/advisor that got fired for disagreeing with government policy If I remember right was he not their chief advisor? I think he advised them not to reclassify cannabis back to a class B from C, and they did it anyway and sacked him.
alexl
so, you think that the fact that it is currently highly illegal, puts absolutely nobody off of touching heroin. I find that quite unbelievable. I've never heard of anyone going to prison for drug use alone. That is even if you get caught which as someone mentioned earlier is pretty unlikely, I think most people can see that heroin is an evil drug that's what keeps the majority away. Twistedsanity
He was the governments chief advisor on drugs , the aptly named Professor Nutt , the government ordered an enquiry into current drug classifications and he put alcohol and tobacco at the top of the list where they should be and ranked the others accordingly , they decided that the truth hurt and made them look bad so they sacked him instantly , it takes 357 deaths from paracetamol to get one newspaper story but only one death from MDMA has the same effect ! The war on drugs is immensely profitable for a lot of people and organisations and runs Into trillions of dollars annually so there is no way it's gonna end anytime soon regardless of how much of what we are told is just propoganda and media BS

alexl
to be honest i dont really know much about it I just googled it, the general gist is that he advised that alcohol and tobacco were both more damaging that cannabis, lsd and ecstasy. He was then 'asked' to resign for damaging efforts to give the public clear messages about the dangers of drugs. Looks like he did but they didn't like the messages he was giving. Maybe the tax associated with alcohol and tobacco could have affected the decision. Politicians...
JonathanL
i have to say this is sort of how i remember it wasn't there a doctor/advisor that got fired for disagreeing with government policy He resigned. He was fed up with being ignored all the time. I can understand his feelings on the matter; if you are an expert in the field, appointed by the government to a specialist scientific committee to advise on matters of a technical nature and you simply get ignored it's an insult to your self and your professional capacity. By ignoring these people the government are tacity saying that they don't know what they are talking about. J.
pimpkiller
Depends on the research i suppose, booze and fags are worse for the country overall because more people do it and stupidly, whereas hardcore drug use is relatively rare and more behind closed doors. So is a pint of bitter class A and mainlining some smack into a genital vain not that bad?

No he said class A's (heroin ect. nasty intravenous drugs) ranked higher than alcohol, and I believe they do consider proportionally the death rate for numbers of users, alcohol really is quite bad for you. To be honest has anyone considered sugar is a drug, lots of people are addicted to it, it creates a chemical feel good reaction in the body, and kills a hell of a lot of people, through diabetes, obesity ect. Penelope
Sugar was a rare food source back in our ancestry, as such the human body craves sugars (and fats). Look at the efforts the Baka people of the Congo go to get honey. It's the root of the obesity problem.
