Chris_S
After deciding to switch to 24g shells for sporting clays (7.5 fibre), I discovered they cost more than 28g, the 21g ones are maybe slightly cheaper, but 24g are more expensive. Does anyone know of a budget 24g shell that I can get hold of down in the South (Near A3)?
Guest cookoff013
24g premium clay loads are expensive due to the olympic style / grade shells. i`ve been using homeloads and RC2 24g #9.5s and i am delighted with them.
gemini52
If you can use steel, game bore do 24 gram loads, they work out around 135 quid a thousand,a good cartridge at a good price.
blackfive
Hi, I have been avised to use the eley 24g fiber wad 7.5 catridge for clays, as these are a square load. Will this make much of a differance? I dont want to pay over the top for them that all.

I have NEVER heard that term before, I wonder where it comes from? thats funny. maybe you should make your own decision as to what cartridge is best. obviously you want to shoot the cheapest shells. so buy the cheapest reguardless of what it is. As you say C O buy the cheapest possible and learn to shoot them! OR Buy the cheaper 28 gramme shells and tip 4 grammes out on the floor! Guest cookoff013
its a black powder term used for judging the height of the lead stack. for each of the gauges the square load is reduced. but its just a load of balls, as the modern day nitro loads are so efficient, that there really is no need to go on about the squareness and "more square" loads. it is just a way of saying "reduced" payload of shot, there is alot of chuff about cartridges, 99% is often marketing chaff. if the guy is after cheap, he should just buy english sporters at 163 /k.
