Pole Star
A while ago I tried to get the piston out of my BSA Lightning & some thing stops it in the cylinder & I am not sure if it is some thing to with the patented scope ramp ? or is it some thing else thats stopping it from coming out ? . Any help will be much appreciated . Pole Star Edited July 2, 2013 by Pole Star
snarepeg
It's the scope ramp, with the stud removed at the back, it taps rearwards and slots out. Not as easy as it sounds as its on a rubber base, why are you removing it? The seals don't require servicing as a rule, leave well alone if its not urgent. Underdog
The scope mount is on three lugs that compress rubber strips between mount and cylinder. The mount has to be drifted (forward I think!) after the screw is removed from the top/rear. U.

Pole Star
not sure if this helps at all. sounds like snarepeg has experience of them.https://www.gunspares.co.uk/products/24300/Lightning/ Thanks for the link aga man its most useful , I did not want to take that scope ramp off until I got some info on it & at a guess I think the hardest thing will be getting it back on ? . The reason I want to get out the piston is to refurbish it & get a little more power out of it as I have had it a long time now & the power is down a bit & I hate wounding so its time to beef it up a little . Many thanks ATB Pole Star

johnbaz
Hi Pole Star This is what your Maxigrip ramp will look like on the bottom.. And here is the cylinder I removed it from (it's actually an Airsporter Stutzen but should be the same)..BTW, if it's the same, you'll have to drift it towards the rear to remove it.. It was a sod to remove and since I haven't refitted it yet, I can't say how bad it is to refit All the little dings are what I did removing it, I didn't have a proper tool to remove it, the rifle was in a state anyhow Good luck with the job John
snarepeg
What you will notice is the ramp is alloy, so soft, use a piece of hard wood or brass. Rod, but be prepared to have a bit of damage to front end of ramp, best of luck. John
