Tom1989
Hi everyone, I have a small amount of rust in the cartridge chambers (inside barrel) on my O/U 12 gauge shotgun. What is the best way to remedy this? Many Thanks
al4x
bronze brush and 3 in 1 oil and scrub it a bit and it should pretty much disappear
hunterdave
I find a bit of autosol ( available at halfords £3.99 tube ) on the end of your finger rubbed on the rust gets rid of it and does an amazing polish job at the same time and for really stubon rust put some on an old toothbrush. Try it you won't regret it

subsonicnat
STEEL WOOL, Wrapped around a cane with oil, put in Drill, its like honing it, makes a good job too..
andy198712
would this be ok on action and on blueing aswell No. It's an abrasive so not what you want in the action unless you could happerly get it all off?
subsonicnat
I Didn`t know there was an action in the Barrel, funny guns you have???.
Rem223
I wouldn't recommend Solvol on anything blued as bluing is a kind of oxidation its likely to remove this. I would use a soft cloth and some gun oil and just try and rub the rust away gently.

I am mainly concerned about damaging the inside barrel with using certain cleaning products. Thanks
al4x
you would have to use something seriously severe to damage inside the barrel
fenboy
Oil the chamber , stick your bronze brush in the cleaning rod then stick the rod in a battery drill and give it a wiz , rust will be gone in seconds
hunterdave
Yep autosol metal polish, keep it off bluing, it's fine to use in actions it's about as abrasive as toothpaste been using it for all sorts since I was an aerospace engineer at Rolls Royce derby I wouldn't suggest anything that could damage your gun , I have found on the other hand that if you want to remove bluing from anything , just paint it on ie a barrel leave an hour and the bluing has gone, way better than soaking in white vinegar , I then polished my barrel to a mirror finish
