searley
My understanding is you can borrow a shot gun for upto 7 days without telling the police.. On that basis, if he had his own ticket, then he can 'borrow' the gun for the day to take shooting

dan17
thanks for all the advice, I knew he could borrow them but wasn't sure about the transport part as it would be in public, I thought they could only be transferred to his ticket when he turned 18 ?? fl206
You need to be 18 to buy your own shotgun, but I believe anyone 15-17 can have a shotgun put on their certificate (e.g. a gift) as they no longer require the supervision of an SGC holder over 21 years of age. https://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q325.htm
thameside
Not sure if these 2 links will help http://www.essex.police.uk/pdf/firearms_under18.pdf http://www.essex.police.uk/contact_us/firearms_application/your_questions.aspx
JonathanL
thanks for all the advice, I knew he could borrow them but wasn't sure about the transport part as it would be in public, I thought they could only be transferred to his ticket when he turned 18 ?? Surely he is very likely to be shooting them in a public place as well when he goes clay shooting? That being the case the guns aren't in any more of a public place when they are in his car. J. happy.plinker
My son was 15 when he got his cert ,he had his own key for the cabinet and every shotgun in it went on his certificate at the same time.
