  1. If you get an fac for club, then you are only allowed to shoot at the club until you have approved land and had vermin added to uour ticket. All clubs have a probation period of 3 months or more before you can be a full member, so a club wont be any good to you if you want to apply now
  2. In most cases, i find from the center of the road, over the verge, then hedge.. You are already 50 foot away, or not far from it... It certainly not and offence to be within 50ft with a firearm, so i just ensure any shots are taken when there are no cars about... But to be hinest in most cases if using an air rifle or moderated 22 most car drivers would be totally unaware that you have fired a shot.. I did have someone call the police once, when i was close to thier boundary fence, aiming into the land that i had permission on, trying to state i scared her.. I was within 50ft of a bridleway, which cars can go down to get to the horse fields, she tried hard to have me stopped from shooting the land, but was in the end told by the police that i had just as much right to be there as she does on her land, she was also told that if she entered the land i was on to try and stop me shooting she could be charged with aggrevated trespass.. I now when shooting land that is not police approved, call the control room before shooting, it only takes a few minutes and they have not turned up since.. Although they did call my mobile one night to see if i was in a specific location as they had a report, and if i was they neednt turn out
  3. Just had my brother in law around who is a police seargent He claims to have shot H&K police rifles, but it became apparent as i handed him different guns from my collection, and he looked through the scope out the back window, that he did no check the guns were empty first, not did he know how to check When i passed him the Colt M4 he asked if it was full auto or semi auto
  4. Mine just says land deemed suitable by the chief constable, so as long as the land has been passed for the calibre, then they i would be ok, in a similar way the just need to check the wording on their licence So its not just a case of having permission.. But i assume you have had the land checked by the police if you are shooting it?? Unless of course you are only shooting with air rifle? If they have open tickets then yes, it would be upto them to decide if its safe or not
  5. was booked on august, but they have cancelled the course
  6. In my case the FEO has done lots of shooting for many years, shoots a lot of rabbit, fox, deer and anything that can go in the pot, he is also one of only 25 licensees that are allowed to shoot on the newforest
  7. I have a bit of land, that is in a similar situation as the OP's. not a terrace of houses, but a row of bungalows It has about 0.75a of land so not much!!!!! The FEO HAS approved the land for the shooting of fox with a 22lr, as long as the shot are taken towards a specific direction (10ft embankment). The FEO asked the neighbours if any of them had an issue, and none did, as they would rather see the chickens that are on the land On the other hand i have a 5a bit of land that i have not even bothered asking him to inspect, as its totally flat, and i doubt he would consider it safe So as far as i see it, some small bits of land are ok, others are not, careful consideration by the shooter is needed
  8. My understanding is you can borrow a shot gun for upto 7 days without telling the police.. On that basis, if he had his own ticket, then he can 'borrow' the gun for the day to take shooting
  9. One of my mates has an fac, his first.. The 22lr, 17hmr and 223 are closed.. The fac air is open, and it was in day 1 I also know someone that after 2 years badgered the FEO until he was given an open ticket Mine is closed, but ive only had vermin permission on mine for a couple of months, i can wait for it to be opened as my FEO inspects land fast
  10. Often in hampshire they will issue air rifles open, so that you can use them on any land..
  11. Some FEO's are still being funny about deer, and asking for mentors, just getting an FAC with a deer legal calibre does not automatically mean you can shoot them The first thing you need to do is get you letter of permission, stating the calibres you can use, then ask your FEO if the land is cleared and what for... No point putting in a application if the land is only cleared for .22 and the FEO wont clear it for larger. Then when he comes back with the response, tell him what you wish to do, and he will let you know if he is likely to approve it... Hampshire for example are still using mentor conditions..
  12. I am booked on a dsc1 with jelen They will supply me a mentor letter so i can get my variation, then i will do a couple of paid stalks so i have the experience side if it
  13. You are correct, im zerod at 20 yards, however with trajectory charts and a little practice i can still shoot in the right place at 50 yards and beyond.. The only problem with stinger is it will rise about an inch between 25 and 80 yards, then it start to drop again But i find they group as well as winchester subs, Ive not tried much beyond 100 yards, as i would nit shoot beyond that with a 22
  14. My most used: HW100 with pulsar N550 scope by rsearley, on Flickr My favorite First night out with the 10/22 by rsearley, on Flickr
  15. I got a hw75 pistol for shooting rats, and i did once or twice use it to dispatch a rabbit, i can say that at close range there is more than enough power for the pellet to pass right through the head, and it does quickly dispatch them.. But i quickly got over my dislike of dispatching by hand, if needed, which nowadays is rare as better shot placement means they are dead outright For me something was telling me its not right to break the animals neck, but now i see it as the fastest and most humane way. So yes it is possible, but its just extra messing around, more cost, and more risk
  16. Just had AOLQ added to my 22's in hampshire, but the FEO has insisted that i will need a mentor for 243, even though Andy Marsh who is the Chief Constable for hampshire is the one who wants the removal of mentor conditions I asked if a dsc1 would remove the need for a mentor, and the response was no
  17. Hi, Yes i find it odd too, ive read some people saying they are great, some say the are rubbish.. I was at the club last night, i tried some, along with winchester subs and they were just as accurate, not tried many at long range yet, just fired one at the farm, and it hit what i was aiming at
  18. I have 3 x 22 in the cabinet, but they are all zero'd at 20 yards for club shooting.. Still work ok for bunnies as long as you have a range finder, and have an idea of the bullet trajectory I dont really at the moment want to dedicate one of the 22's for bunny use, as ive got to the stage of winning medals with them. So im at the stage of wanting another gun, noise is not an issue, as its on a farm, so am thinking of a 17hmr as some of the distances are quite large, too much for a 22.. FEO has already said he will approve one no question as he prefers the HMR. Then for the 22 ruger or cz i may fix some weaver rail, and get some quick release scope mounts, so i can change scopes easily, This way i will have the choice of 17 or 22 I have used cci stingers through my cz, and found them to be accurate, and they do well at longer ranges than the Winchester subsonics, so this is alway another thing you can try if you have a 22
  19. I found on both my 12g and 410 hush power that the nipple is higher than it would normally be, meaning shooting low if using the nipple ti line up So i just lift the aim point slightly, only missed once
  20. I made my own database that i use in handbase The good thing with handbase is there is iphone, android, pc and mac versions that all can use the same files
  21. Correct the sub £50 ones are quite week, i open them a lot when old people forget the codes.. Supra now do a much better one with a rrp of £80 but i still would not put my trust in one!
  22. well, most gun cabinets atleast have proper safe locks, with a minimum 2mm steel body, and hardened plates protecting the locks I have a bratton sound cabinet, and the general construction is quite good but if you put your keys in a cheap and nasty digital safe, then you are as good as handing the keys over!
  23. even the best of the keysafes are rubbish, I can open most in seconds without damage, and if in a hurry a large screwdriver and hammer can open then! if you are going to go for a second digital safe, then you need something with a case rating, a rateing of S1 or £2k or even S2 £4k should be the minimum.. any of the sub £150 "safes" are nothing more than a metal box with a rubbish lock
  24. interesting concept but ****, certainly lower security than the gun cabinet, and could be bypassed in seconds
  25. Similar here, I start with a print from google, or take the ipad, so I can find exactly where the boundaries are.. the i ask if they have any species they particularly want taken care of.. then the "what where and when.." some like rabbits, some don't, some want the foxes shot others don't... others say shoot what you like as long as not my song birds. then "how do I tell you im shooting?" with some a call or text, others just say park over there if I see you car I know you are here.
