You're fortunate that your work is obviously not overly dependent on you being able to produce a well written document. Plenty of others aren't so lucky.

I frequently produce reports/quotes/invoices etc and I'm certain that if they appeared to be written by a 12 year old I'd get less work!

Fortunately I went to a good enough school and applied myself enough to enable me to read, write and carry out sufficient mathematics to get by.

Mongrel I'm fortunate in many ways and when I read responses like yours online, I feel even more fortunate :)

I'm also fortunate I have a thick skin, its something you acquire when you have to tolerate comments like yours offline and online.

Didn't you realise its not just about going to a good school or were you just wrapped in cotton wool perhaps.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way trying to put you down, you have obviously done well in what you do. However, most jobs require a certain level of literacy and without that level of literacy many jobs won't be achievable, they just won't get past the interview no matter how nice, decent, loving and compassionate they may be. I know there are plenty of people out there who are successful but unqualified...but I'll bet they've got someone to type their letters for them. I am very much aware that a handful of O-levels doesn't make me better than anyone else, and indeed, one of my best mates runs his own plastering company, is probably the wealthiest man I know, and left school without taking an exam but, he has a secretary.

It's not conceit mate, it's living in the real world.

A bit OTT there Mongrel, in fact bordering on "head up your own ****"

I can think of a million things that make a good person, and spelling correctly isn't one of them!!

Having re-read it I can see where you are coming from, but as stated elsewhere, other than the first line, it wasn't specifically aimed at anyone.

My point is you are not the only person to be "gifted" with grammatical excellence, a bit more consideration of content and how it may be perceived would not go amiss. Even your subsequent post comes across as patronising !

Mate, if that's the way you choose to read it so be it. It's not intended to be.

At no point did I say I was gifted or grammatically excellent, I have a good grasp of the language, nothing more. Most of the people I know are as well educated or more so than I am and certainly more intelligent. The point is that, with the one notable exception, all of the less well educated ones I know are in less well paid, and less demanding jobs. If they are happy with that, then that's great....trouble is, most of them say that they wish they could get a better job. Some of them have gone back to education to improve their prospects as they have realised that their current standard is insufficient. Strength to their arm and all that, I have nothing but admiration for them.

What's wrong with having a secretary! lol I wish I could afford a secretary

Nothing at all if you need one. Just saying that SOME people have one to do the things they cannot rather than because their time is so precious.
