Cosd
Ordered a couple of bags of wood chips today to try for the first time, Hickory and Cherry. Any recommendations on other types? I've ordered Webber ones, are these the ones to go for, or any other types just as good or better? I wouldn't mind trying some of the drink barrel types like Jack Daniels....... aris
Apple for me - particularly for pork. This chap does a good selection and will be considerably cheaper than the weber stuff. http://bbqsmokingwood.co.uk/ How are you using them on the gas BBQ? Wrapping in foil with some holes? The chunks this guy sells should work like that too - or break them down a bit. I have a charcoal hot smoker - and i just stick a lump or two during the beginning of the cook for some smoke. holly
i use seasoned cherry wood most of the time its from the cherry tree i cut down in the back garden and kept in the garage , all i do is drill it with an auger drill bit over a bucket soak the shavings for 20 mins before using it gives a nice sweet smoke flavor . ive tried the whisky barrel chips and to be honest i would say there just a gimmick no difference between them and normal oak chips . i have tried most available chips and i prefer the fruit wood ones ,cherry , plum , pear
