Fishnshoot
Hi all, I've been asked to deal with pigeons and crows on a field of uncut barley. I know everyone is waiting for the harvest but to gain this permission I'm going to have to give it a go. Any advise would be greatly appreciated... Cheers... karpman
Find a flat spot set up and get shooting. Or use a couple of bouncers and get shooting. Karpman
Mr pigeon
Get as close to where they are going in as possible. Use something ie whirlybird, floaters flapper etc that gives you some movement, and then start knocking them over! Good luck.
JDog
Definately do not use a dog as per la bala. If it is winter barley it may be close to being cut so you might just get away with waiting. If it is spring barley it might be weeks away especially given your location, in which case choose a windy day and get a decent hide near to a good sized flat spot as per Karpman. Don't expect to pick all of your birds. Raise decoys so that they can be seen from some distance by incoming birds.
aga man
pretty much all the advice you need quoted above. but just to add, it is sometimes possible to decoy the birds onto an adjacent field if theres shorter crops to make picking birds easier, even though they are feeding on the barley. try to visually mark dead birds that fall into the barley and take a pair of wellies for picking up, barley awns in your socks will drive you mad. I've been told that there is a feild of grass bordering onto this barley, so I'll defiantly give it a try.... And thanks for the footwear tip. Atb.. Thanks for all the replys, appreciate all the advise. Cheers!.. Edited August 15, 2013 by Fishnshoot
