reggiegun
Hi, My son has a corsa 1.0, 3 cylinder motor, year 2000. He has not had it long, as he is only 18 he needs this age and 3 cylinder engine for his insurance (still £2500). Any way I think the head gasket may have gone, has anyone changed the HG on this model, is it a easy job etc. How long of a job? Cheers Reggiegun
Royboy
The hardest part is the timing chain. You will need the crank timing pin and the cam timing bar. Other than that they are a doddle. I presume you will be changing the timing chain ?
the pigeon man
The worst car to do ever these !!! Timing chains are killers

Lord Geordie
I would seriously recommend buying the whole cam chain kit! The chains in these engines are a pain. You need the Chain, Sprockets and tensioner. The chains are really bad for stretch on these particular engines. I had the 1.2 and in 40.000 miles had 3 chain kits fitted. The valve guides wore out and the hydraulic lifters gave up and the followers had a lot of wear. I don't rate the new vauxhall engines what so ever The 3 pot engines are the worst of them all. Apparently the EU became involved with the motor industry and told them they had to achieve certain targets. They then changed the alloys in the engines, and added things like the EGR valve to accomodate the new targets. In doing so they inadvertantly made the engines more prone to wear and problems. I will not have a newer vauxhall now. Infact I wend BACK to a Cavalier
Royboy
I would buy the full timing chain kit as Geordie says. May aswell get it right first time ! Keep the oil changed regular also. My gf had one (1.2) and I keep oil changed and its been bob on touch wood. You can't beat the old 8v multipoint injection vauxhall engine ! Single point was a bit sluggish . Edited August 21, 2013 by Royboy
armsid
just a point the timing chain cuts into the casing behind the waterpump allowing water into the sump giving the impression head gasket failure this needs to be checked before doing gasket as you could change gasket and still have water in oil when new gasket fitted
