From Pond to Plate!

It was promissing to be quite a hot and sunny day today, far too hot for me to fancy going out shooting, and the wife couldn't decide on what to have for tea so I very shrudely decided to kill 2 birds with one stone. I took the wife to visit one of our sons and I then carried on to my local trout fishery which was just another mile further on.

The fishery (Pennine Trout Farm and Fishery) was quite quiet with only about ten or a dozen fishermen, which wasn't too surprising given the hot bright conditions - the fish didn't seem to be moving much. I set the rod up with a floating line and as I wanted a trout for tea I put a bite indicator and an egg fly on - Not true trout fishing I know but it will normally guarantee results.

The fish were biting occasionally but were very deep and a bit finicky, just lightly mouthing the egg fly and spitting it back out, which is no surprise when you think about how many egg flies they must have seen. All told in my 2 hours of fishing I landed 4 trout ranging from 2 pounds up to about 4 and a quarter pounds and settled for killing one of about 2 and a quarter pounds - About the right size for mine and Marlene's evening meal!

On the way home (After picking Marlene up) i picked up some fresh tomatoes, a couple of lemons and a loaf of crusty bread.

I took the two fillets off the trout, scoring the skin on each fillet to stop them from curling up while cooking and I then squeezed a half a fresh lemon over each fillet after placing them on a microwavable plate. The other lemon was cut into slices as were two large fresh tomatoes and the fillets covered with the slices of lemon and tomato. Into a sausepan went a couple of handfulls of frozen garden peas along with some water and this was put on the hob. The plate with the two fillets was then put into the microwave which was set for 2 minutes and 30 seconds on high. By the time the mictrwave went "ping" the peas were boiling so they were turned down to simmer. The microwave was set for another 2 minutes and 30 seconds on high and set working while I sliced and buttered some of the crusty loaf.

When the microwave went "Ping" for the second time all that was left was to serve up and enjoy with a totla cooking time of about 6 minutes - And then do the washing up.

All in all an enjoyable (And quick and easy to cook) meal to finish off the afternoon! All I need now is a nice cold beer!

I had been thinking about going to Llandudno to try for some Mackerel but didn't feel like the 200 mile round trip. Maybe another week when I can do an early start to avoid the traffic!
