BLACK
gentlemen, Is it wrong to shoot rooks? Do they do more good than harm? Is it better to leave rooks and jackdaws be, while taking every opportunity to kill carrion and grey crows? These questions are in response to threads I have read elsewhere and it has caused me to question my activities. Your opinions would be appreciated. superspark
If you want an indepth view I suggest you do an internet search to find the anwers you seek. In breaf rooks, jackdaws, magpies and the like destroy crops, kill young song birds and eat their eggs. With this in mind I shoot every crow, rook, jackdaw, magpie and wood pigeon I see depending on where I am and what general licence I am shooting to. Hope this explains it in real terms for you. team tractor
Some of my perms I'm on strict orders not to shoot rooks :( its true they eat seed, slugs, grubs etc but at the end of the day they are not carion. Farmers find they help in some cases . I do enjoy a rook bashing time tho
malantone
If you farm potatoes and other crops Rooks can/will do harm pulling and eating. if you farm grass then Rooks eat leather jackets etc and do a deal of good. so I guess it depends on your farms. superspark
Ive just shot around 160 rooks a month or so ago as they were eating the seed on a newly drilled field and on another field they were pulling up the new seedlings. I witnessed this personally and the farmer called me in to shoot them.
