oscarsdad
Out walking the dogs yesterday the cocker spotted a woody on the ground on the edge of a wood and went charging off after it (we were within 20yds of it so I was giving a little bit of free reign on how far out he was) and it didn't fly off as I expected but just sat there so he picked it up and brought it to me alive...it was obviously ill as there was nothing to it, no meat on the breast and it looked as if it has a bad case of the runs...I put it out of its misery and chucked it out of sight- any ideas what may have been wrong with it? All the birds I shot over the weekend over rape stubble have been fat and healthy - there is so much food around for them at the moment I was surprised to see a thin woody... fenboy
Could perhaps have been a pricked bird

Wasn't me...plenty get hit on the main road here though - I often pick them up on the way to walk the cocker for some training.

malkiserow
Had one on my drive the other day. It looked as if a cat had had a go at it. I gave it a tap...... I really did feel sorry or it.
