decroyffe
Today whilst shooting pigeons over rape, we heard a large number of crows going mad. to our rear was a strip of woodland, and beyond that was a grass field. In the field there was a small number of sheep to the far left, and a large dog fox to the far right. The crows were mobbing the fox for a while but for some reason they moved on? The situation wasn't ideal, we had 3 spanial's with us and wasn't sure how'd they behave when we started to squeak, has it turned out they were happy to sit quiet. Steve sat tight and started to squeak. in front was a stone wall so i got myself in a postion against a tree looking to the right so i could see the fox. The fox work it's way up the right hand fence of the field, and turned towards us working it's way up the wall, out of my sight. Steve was also out of my sight so there were no comm's. i decided to move down the wood towards the fox giving me a better position hoping the fox was still in the field walking up the wall. i put a large tree between me and the fox hoping for a ambush type shot out into the field, how wrong was i. after 3 or 4 minutes i looked over my right shoulder to see the fox sat on a track behind me in the wood. by the time a got the gun round the tree he was off ducking and diving between tree's, so i didn't shoot. i walked back up the wood to steve who was still squeaking his head off. we sat for ten minutes talking before we set back off to the hide, all of a sudden, a large dog fox came bolting stright for us. we both lifted the guns but by the time he'd seen us it was lights out. What are the chance's of it being the same fox and our bazare is that? looking back now it was very exciting, the ticker was going ten to the dozen but when he got away, i was chuffed for him. although i was out done i still had a grin on my face. when we shot the fox, i was hoping it wasn't the same one after all his hard work, what do you think, regards

pin
I think this is one of the major things anti's get wrong about us field sports people. You showed compassion and respect today, as most on here do. Most days out I see little things, a kestrel hunting with far more success than us the other day, for example. These antis don't realise we love wildlife and the outdoors, certainly far more than they do
deadeye ive
Yes ,It could have been the same Fox ..............They really are that stupid sometimes that you wander how they got a reputation for being crafty and clever
Cranfield
A great experience. It probably was the same fox, its surprising how confidant they can be when they have only been disturbed. If you had fired after him when he ran into the woods, he wouldn't have come back.
decroyffe
i thought so, more hoping it wasn't more than owt. also, why did the crows move on?
Cranfield
Probably just because they got bored. We have Barn Owls near us and one often gets caught out in a tree in daylight. The rooks come and mob it for about an hour, or so, it doesn't take any notice and then they just clear off. I suppose you would need to be a rook, or a crow to really know the answer.
