aris
Has anyone seen a difference in fuel economy when changing from one brand/model tyre to another? I see that all new tyres now come with efficiency ratings - a bit like household appliances. Best I can see from the literature that the difference between an 'A' rated tyre (which i've never seen for a 4x4 vehicle) and a G rated tyre is a 7.5-8.0% difference in fuel efficiency. This is rated on a machine based on rolling resistance rather than real-world tests. What tyres do you use for your 4x4?
Tim Kelly
I put Grabber ATs (old style) on my colorado and didn't notice any change from the more road style tyres that were on before. It's still bloody thirsty!
tigger got stichs
its not so much the tred pattern that just dictates the road noise its more the rubber compound and its rolling resitance that afects mpg
Twistedsanity
I went from one expensive brand to another and aside from the £900 hole in my wallet from the purchase nothing else changed
Dougy
Changed mine a couple of weeks ago from MT Hankook to General Grabber road tyres and mpg has increased by about 5mpg. The MTs will go on steel rims from about December time or when the weather gets too bad. I will get my money back in around 12 months for the rims. neil82
probably see more of a change going from a tyre close to the limit to a new tyre, rolling diameter will alter the gearing but as your speedo runs on whatever the the gearbox is telling it you would struggle to see any change unless you do set mileage every week and notice a change in how much you put in every week, having said that if tyre choice and fuel consumption are that much of an issue, don`t run a 4x4, they are built to do a job, not 99 mpg

As for running costs, I really don't give a monkey's. If I still had my punto it would greatly restrict my shooting
