Stripping a hush power

If it's a Pedretti single barrel it is threaded on to a bush at the breech end which should unscrew with some effort. The aluminium threads can seize quite easily making removal awkward. It will also have a steel centering collar welded to the muzzle of the barrel which acts as a stop for the baffles that are forward of the barrel. The centering collar will drag all the accumulated **** back with it as you slide the outer tube off. Once you clean it put some copper-ease on the threads to stop them seizing again and grease the barrel outer to stop it rusting unnoticed out of sight.

Anyone ever added additional sound absorbing material between the baffles, like scotchbrite?

Don't waste your time you wont notice any difference. For those who loosen the outer tube but can't remove it you need to be using that collar that is welded to the end of the barrel like a slide hammer, gently, drawing all the **** inside the tube backwards until it is off. Bear in mind that it is a corrosion trap and wants inspecting every once in a while. I've had quite a few Hushpowers various and I've never had an issue with noise increasing from cleaning a gun in fact giving the barrel outside a good coating of protective grease may help to deaden sound as well as keep any rust at bay.

nope, they were both single shot,

So why couldn't you unscrew it from the breech end and remove the tube with the baffles still in it? The old type O/U were a real pain because the baffles which had two holes in obviously slid down onto a pair of rods to make up a cassette which fixed to the barrel end. They did have to be stripped one by one before you could take the tube off at the breech because you couldn't spin them like you can a single barrel.

because of the amount of crud build up within the baffles

Update

Threads at breech end

Barrel length v moderator length

Baffles at muzzle end which I haven't taken out as too tight

Barrel ports time 10

The loose stuff from the moderator was from the outside of the barrel but had been shaken or shocked off and was loose

this is the fine stuff from the inside wall of the outer moderator which wasn't enough to make the outside hard to remove, it was small dents in the wall that made it tight.

There are no baffles or absorber in the whole section behind the fixed gas tight end of the barrel and about 5 or 6 vane baffles beyond the ported barrel to break down the exiting gases.

Going to try muffling that main section or sleeving the outside with a neoprene sleeve to cut down the noise coming from the main can of the moderator.
