claycrasher
Hello everyone, can any of you recommend a a decent infra red night vision torch that won't break the bank??
Dave-G
Oh-yes as Churchill says. Our very own thread here for RED and IR swap-ability. Buy a red one and convert your own to IR so you have two night hunting solutions, cheap as chips from the bay and improve it yourself - or I can do it for you with my own built upgrades but that is obviously going to be more expensive. PM me for prices if you don't wish to do it yourself: http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/211717-modified-led-lamping-torches/ What will you be using it with and for? bullet boy
What's your budget? My mate Eccles on here just bought the Nightmaster 800 IR.
cal 7888
Torch pro IR illuminator is good! ive used it along side a few different night vision units and has worked brilliantly every time! unlike the nightmaster 800 it has TWO convex lenses so you dont get the massive black void of illumination in the middle of the beam (not where its helpful really!) callum
Davyo
May be out of budget but the NM800 IR is AWSOME.No void on the NM800 at all. Edited September 21, 2013 by Davyo

If you are buying one and want to get it next day delivery and have a decent guarantee then you won't beat the nightmaster. If you want to order bits from all over and play then there are cheap options, personally I want my gear to work and be reliable and this is one of my better purchases. Dave-G
I've never come across a black void in any aspheric lensed torch or illuminator - do tell us more about that Callum.
mick miller
Well, on a tightly focused beam you do get a dark centre which comes from the led design. On the x searcher you can see this quite clearly. Not really an issue, just defocus the image slightly.
cal 7888
As mick miller said... Thank you!
Dave-G
Ah - you mean the bar between the two lit segments of the Oslon black LED. Yes that is a disappointing fact that debilitates the potential performance in any illuminator they are fitted to. I thought you were referring to shall we say a dark hole, which would make for a halo effect. Sorry for that. Fortunately there are other LED's that don't have that extent of an issue and can be used at full focus. The ones I know of are lower power than the Oslon but the photon and N550 for example don't need a lot of IR anyway for the mag's that they are.
