Disco value? Any ideas?

I've been offered an N plate Tdi ( i guess this is a 200 or 300) disco, no MOT no Tax. Owner is a bit of a townie who just fancied a LR a few years ago. The inside is in OK condition but there are some holes in the wheel arches and floor.

The paint is faded but seems to run fine. Wheels and tyres are very good. Had a new alternator recently and service a couple of months ago.

The owner wants £400 for the vehicle.

Is this about right?

If the rest is rusty how's the chassis, sills, rear door shuts, boot floor, front suspension turrets and rear cross member?

If yes it's a good price, if no then how bad is it? All of the above are common rot points.

As a guide I just bought a late 200tdi with decent mechanicals, solid chassis and repaired boot floor, turrets and sills. Just starting to show some rust on the rear door shut/arch and paid 650 with a few moths MOT.

That seemed fair judging by ebay sale prices which I studied for weeks before I bought.

Oh, and I believe an 'N' will be a 300 tdi.

Plenty about for 600 to 1000 grand now with mot. Unless ya can weld pretty well wouldn't touch it.

Welding a new boot in is not exactly rocket science if you can weld lol. And then there's all the other bits.

Sounds to me like that one wants to go to a breakers

I wouldn't pay 400 even if I was to break it myself

It's got no tax or mot for a reason

Only thing worth out is the motor and I wouldn't pay more than 250 for that

The rest is not much because there are so many about

LOL. For 250 you wouldn't even get the engine and gearboxes.

Sounds a good price but only if you know what your doing with a set of spanners and a mig welder. If you have to pay someone to do the work you could quickly be looking at very heavy bills. If you have a look in the boot and pull up the carpet the boot floor should tell you what you need to know.

It might be worth a punt but keep in mind you may just end up scrapping it and just about getting your money back.
