fenboy
You have perhaps read my post about my Van breaking down in France , the general gist is its engine is shot and with the cost of recovery and a recon engine I have pretty much decided to cut my loses and scrap it over there. So I am now looking for a replacement , I am pretty keen on the Citroen Berlingo in the 1.6 HDI as I already run a car with the same engine and so far its been trouble free and I know they are regarded as pretty bomb proof I would be looking at a van around 2007/8 perhaps with 50-60 k on it. I have also seen one or two Renault Kangoos for reasonable money with a 1.5 DCI engine but have no experience of them , where as I know one or two people with berlingos who are quite happy with them . So anyone who runs these vans got any comments on reliability etc , or anything else I should consider in the 3-4k bracket

aga man
i can vouch for the renault kangoo vans i have used them for my business for the past ten years. good reliabilty, good mpg [even when heavily loaded] easy to work on and cheap to buy second hand. whats more if you forget to take a sack and have a good day on the pigeons the passenger footwell will hold 70 or so dead pigeons

fenboy
What sort of mileage do you get out of the kangoos chaps ??
aga man
What sort of mileage do you get out of the kangoos chaps ?? never really gauged the mpg but i reckon east 40+ probably nearer 50 a real luxury compared to the disco. my last kangoo had 140000 on the clock when i got shut. i generally always get the cambelt replaced every 50 000, or so for piece of mind. edit to say mine has a fair amount of weight in the back and pipe and ladder racks on the roof that probably won't help the mpg. houlsby
Had berlingo's, connects, kangoo's, combo vans, t4's.. Had 3 berlingo's. a really old petrol/LPG, a 2006 hdi, and a brand spanking new hdi. The newest was **** on fuel, but was fast. Came with the dash light on, left resembling a Xmas tree after 6 weeks and 9k miles. The hdi was the best all rounder and by far most reliable, it took some proper abuse over 2 years and never broke down and didn't undress itself. (Although by the time I'd finished crashing into things in London it looked like a dog.) The LPG was cheap as chips, cost me £500 and I did over 40k in it. At about 70mpg. Transit connects are poo. Have one as a works van ATM, slow, bad on fuel, eat tyres, small, cramped, drives like a bucket of custard. Kangoo's fall to bits if you slam the door too hard, 40mpg and slow as hell I did 40 k in one year and it went to the boneyard Combo, by far the most unreliable van in history. But, very very safe! I got rear ended about 40mph at some lights and shoved into another car, survived, I ditched it whilst shooting, survived, a very large steel gate closed onto it in some high winds at google, survived without a scratch! Also, very good on fuel, 60mpg. I did over 30k in it. Very very very slow
