Partridges and chickens

Recommended Posts

A bit of an odd one, but I'd like to give a little back and raise some partridges. Not for the specific purpose of shooting, but because the numbers have dwindled in the local area (Fox populations have gone up massively however).

So my plan is this, my mother keeps chickens. Get partidge eggs and let them sit on them and brood them? Or would it need to be done differently? Has anyone on here done this before?

Where can I get them from?

Many thanks in advance.

That was the old fashioned way of rearing pheasants and partridges was under banty's. Or u could possibly get day old chicks and u put them in indivdual runs with a banty for small covey sized groups, reckon that is the best way off getting them to restablish

Like toontastic said the Gcwt has plenty of handouts and info on its site about Grey's should be plenty there to giver u an idea. Depending on ur area but might have aloal contact from the Grey Part Count Scheme who could give u practical hands on advice

U've got plenty off time to research it anyway

My father reared his pheasants under clockers when he started keepering as that was the way pheasants were reared. When the rearing season starts again next year just phone around some of your local gamefarms for some eggs to buy. Most gamefarms sell eggs, day olds and poults ready to go to woods so you should be able to get them easily enough. There is even some gamefarms selling eggs over the internet on e-bay and they even sell small amounts which would be perfect for what you need.
