JDog
I placed a cold pheasant on the lawn the other day and when I took Jasper out for a wee he went straight across to it. He is 12 weeks old. He sniffed it's bottom, then it's head, then he did a little jig, then he retreated before returning to it and nuzzling it. He was with it for no more than 30 seconds before I took it off him, confident that birds will hold no fears for him in the future.

WGD
Good that it didn't spook him, personally I wouldn't have presented something that he couldn't pick up. I do give pups cold and freshly shot game to retrieve at a very young age whilst they are still completely green and picking up anything they can. Partridge, woodcock or teal I would have used here, then back to dummies for conditioning once you know he's ok with feather. Just my way, but in doing this I have never had any issues further down the line with not picking up something they are sent for. Nice looking pup, hope he does well for you.
