hornady ammunition

Recommended Posts

There has been quite a lot of talk lately of 17 bullets being left in the barrels, is this just a rimfire thing, or has anyone experienced it with a centre fire. I am just thinking about the 17 hornet, and anyone for some reason firing a shot with one already stuck in the barrel. I suppose with the recoil and the noise one would know something was wrong if a round hadnt left the barrel

It's just a hmr thing, as the brass is rather thin around the case neck its prone to cracking slightly, I had this problem twice, I believe the problem ( in my case it was) the small crack in the case neck had let moisture into the powder, making it damp meaning a large amount of powder wasn't burning and giving it the push it needs, leaving it stuck in the barrel, I've never heard about a problem with there cf stuff tho

This "CAN" happen with any calibre and cartridge!

It is certainly NOT simply HMR, I had one a few weeks back with a .22lr, HMR appear to be more common but don't discount ANY ammunition.

The general manufacturing process and mechanics of centrefire ammunition would appear to make them general less likely....and don't discount shotguns either, it happened to a Pal I was stood next to probably about 8 years ago, cart went phut and barely opened the end, very odd!

I had bullets stuck twice in my CZ452 HMR, plus many split cases on my last batch of Remmington gold tips. The last time it happened, the bullet only travelled a couple of inches and I had to tap it out from the breech end with a protected brass rod. Stopped using them and bought Hornady blue tips and now a new batch of red tips. In the last 200 odd rounds, I've had no split cases and no duds, so maybe they've improved the tooling, or are using slightly thicker brass?

The barrel seems none the worse for having to tap the bullet out. (It was too tight to push out) I'm still knocking down 120 yard rabbits.

I've had it happen in my 7x57. Letting another of those off on top of it would have been a laugh but I really can't see how it can be done with a sonic bullet? Surely the report would be different enough to check the gun with any fast round?

It's not unheard of for ammunition to have a low charge of powder. That, along with a shed load of other reasons, is why we should always be alert when shooting. It's not a hobby that mixes well with a lack of concentration.

Was this with 7x57R S+B ammo by any chance?
