Well done, but like JDog said I wouldn't have let it have a runner as it's first especially not a cock pheasant incase the cock pheasant decided to kick my dog causing my dog to snap and potentially induce hard mouth. It's aways worth giving a second barrel. Having said that she did well so well done, looks like she did you proud. Good stuff.

Looks like you were on a moderated shotie there, last time a saw that on pheasants I had to chase the guy off . Well done the dog, ideally as others have said no runners at the start, but I have the slightest doubts about it creating hard mouth. I know its commonly excepted gundog training law but how come most lurchers (near as heck all the ones we used to breed were not hard mouthed?) Some never retrieved dead game in their lives once past cold game training. It will certainly inspire confidence, no question in that one even if it is non excepted practice . You might have to keep the whistle firmly in mouth next trip if she has much about her

to be honest I did it deliberately because she is a softy and she needed to fire up a bit ....I would have rathered it to have been a well hit hen but when the cock hit the ground and ran I just sent her....

shes had plenty of cold game....its seems to have helped I took her out tonight and she was hunting like crazy.....she went beating and didn't like it so I needed a bit of a confidence boost.
