30-6
Today i have aquired some freshly cut hazel sticks (6 in all), some are about 3/4 inch some about 1 1/4 inch. All are very straight, with 2 having "V" on top for thumb sticks. I was told to let them dry out, and store them horizontal rather than vertical. Bearing in mind they are only to be used for everyday use and not made into anything fancy, two questions. 1 - how long should they dry out for and 2 - can they be stored vertically, which will be easier for me ? johnphilip
The best thing to do is tie them all together with a load of string if you can hang them up in a shed from the roof they will be out of the way, they say that it should be a year per inch. I would keep one back and just use it. Put plenty of oil on it may help it from crack, just use it and enjoy it. When we were kids and we cut a stick we used it, we did not think oh i better put this away for a year.

la bala
store them any way that suits, just make sure they are in the dry, and a circulation of air helps. enjoy your stickmaking
