I tried to strip my mod last night for the regular clean and wasnt able unscrew the expansion tube. I have a feeling that I forgot to grease the thread after last clean. Any recommendations on how to free it?

I see vinegar is a bad move!

Its a wild cat pred 8.

Thanks in advance

Do you mean the internal tube or the outer sleeve?

Blow torch!?

Vice...... wrap the mod thread/baffle front section in cloth or kitchen roll to protect it, if you have a decent vice you may be able to make some V section wood inserts for it. Grip tube by hand or with a oil filter chain wrench, again protect tube.

Gentle attention with a rubber/wood mallet may help to crack/break the seal!

Good luck, it could just be on for good now.

I have got in the habit of checking I can undo all the bits on mine immediately after a shoot, somewhat anal I know, I also strip and clean all my P8's after every shoot, probably even more anal, but at least its quick and easy that way!:good:

I always Vaseline the threads, they come apart easy but it also melts and can flow a bit at times :lol:, must try some of the Copperslip stuff, or any other suggestions for the threads?

Cheers

Not tried it yet but I bought a little bottle of smooth-kote a while back. It's a very fine moly powder in strong alcohol; put it on, let it dry and you have a light moly coat that apparently penetrates into the surface of the metal too - no grease to melt or attract dirt. I've no idea how well it'd work but it's a suggestion all the same.
