Help with stick-head

Hi, a bit of help please from you talented "stick guys" :)

I'm wanting to make a Hazel shafted stick for my GF, but the problem is I'd like to cap it off with something totally unique <_<

I've got a stone of a certain shape with an "eye" marking on it,,,,

It has a flat-ish side to it which I'm hoping can be attached to a suitable bit of Buffalo/Stag horn or on a naturally knobbed Hazel stick.

Would this be do-able ? I know some shaping would have to be carried out to make the stone "fit", but is it possible to drill and peg the stone and then glue in place ?

Stick length would be 1200mm and then cut to suit with a suitable ferule fitted.

Any help with this would be much appreciated :good:

Thanks, Chris

That's a great idea, thanks.

The flat [ish] mounting face of the stone is approx. 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" and slightly oval shaped so would fit on the thick part of a Stag Horn, with some shaping and would actually carry on the shape quite well. Plus it fits my GF's small hands quite nicely,,,,, the stone that is :whistling:

Here's a couple more pics showing the mounting face and the rough shape of the stone.

Really I was wondering if it's possible to drill, peg and glue the stone ??? Would a tile drilling bit do the job ? Don't want to mess this up as it's a no second chance job that's for sure :/

Any more help appreciated :good:

Set it into what ever you use, horn or what ever you choose set it below the level of were its fitting by about 1/4 of an inch you could glue it in with 2 pack glue then put some masking tape around the top of were it is mounted maybe about 1/4 inch this is to make a funnel the fill with clear resin. When it has set take the masking tape of a sand and polish it to shape. The hardest bit is fixing the handle to the stick shaft you can drill and use threaded bar and 2pack glue. It just drilling the two holes so they line up a cheat is to drill the holes a little bigger than the threaded bar a piece of 6mm will do or just get a long bolt and cut the head of it. Dont try drilling the stone incase it breaks............... Good luck

Oh use the two pack to glue the head to the stick..........

Sorry to thread jack but what resin would you recomend for pouring, good luck with your project jkd

Hi fella, no need to apologise, any help on here is for everybody

Thanks for all the replies guys, but I really need to fix the stone properly as I can't risk it getting lost. Just want the bare stone as a top to the handle, so not resin covered :/

So it must be drilled, even if it's just a shallow hole.

Has anyone drilled into a stone before, and is it as difficult as we all seem to think ? As I've said, I've got one chance at this so don't want to mess it up.

This really is a unique stone to use, the pictures don't do it justice, as it looks like a close-up of the Velociraptor in Jurassic Park,,,,, and my GF has a thing about strange stones :) Got one that looks like "The Scream",,,, sort of :whistling: Pics on request B) :)

Cheers again

it ha the look of marbel in it , could you find another that looks like the same stone and try drilling that . i would drill it with the size you want and not start with a smaller one first. incase is snaps when you go up a size in drill bits .

this looks interesting
