shooting insurance

Up untill 2 weeks ago my gun was at the shop, just a deposit paid, and the shop owner used to take it to the shoot with him so I could have a go. He teaches and takes party bookings so I was covered by his blanket insurance.

Now the gun is bought outright and in my posession, I hastely joined the CPSA on Friday to get insurance for shooting today (the NGO was another consideration, but the shooting ground is affiliated to the CPSA, so I thought 'keep it in the family' so to speak).

I fly model aircraft as well. No insurance is required for that, but a 5 lb model plane travelling at 80 mph can do A LOT of damage and/or kill. The BMFA (British Model Flying Assoc.) provide similar indemnity as CPSA, BASC, NGO, etc.

The British Kendo Assoc. also cover me for Iaido (a Japanese sword art - leave to the imagination the damage THOSE can do!!).

I don't think there's any written law about insurance requirement in many sports/pastimes (unlike motor vehicles), but only a fool would do these things without it IMHO.
