paddymax123
hi guys, from what I have heard the best time of year to use flappers and a rotary is during the winter. is it two early for them being worth carrying for up to a mile over the fields as I cant drive on my land. so would it be better to leave them for later in the winter or are they worth while now. wandering what experiences the old hands on here have on this topic and advice would be amazing guys and all info is welcome, thanks. fenboy
I guess they are worth carrying if there are plenty of pigeon using the field you want to shoot , if there are not then it will be a waste of time either with or without them . Lg1
Hi buddy, There is no set time of year to use rotary's flappers or floaters, they all do a good job on there day what ever the season. If youv got a hike to your desired position in a field then the obvious choice will be flappers due to it been lighter to carry than the rotary. Floaters are your lightest option off cause but don't do the job of a rotary or flapper, again they help but I always use floaters for directional purpose! IE, directing the decoyed birds to your chosen kill point. Hope this helps a little Cheers

NickB65
I use my floaters all the time unless the wind is soo bad they look like they are on a roller coaster Still not had much luck with the rotary but that may be due to where I shoot as a lot of people use them. Always pack them though as you never know what you'll find when you get tp the field.
paddymax123
great advice guys thanks, had a go with it yesterday and nothing seemed to want to stop even when we were under a flight line that always has birds on it and the place they had been feeding strong for the last week and that morning, only five birds taken from the flight line. just one of those days i guess
GingerCat
Sometimes find the rotary a pain in the *** as it's scared em off, not had tbat wth a flapper. Sometimes only the rotary works.
Longchalk
great advice guys thanks, had a go with it yesterday and nothing seemed to want to stop even when we were under a flight line that always has birds on it and the place they had been feeding strong for the last week and that morning, only five birds taken from the flight line. just one of those days i guess Been doing the same thing myself, with similar returns. I'm not blaming the kit though, the birds have just not read the script this year. Sounds like its the same everywhere. I've no doubt the flapper will pull them in like elastic when they are actually in the mood for feeding...... Middle of next month I'd hope.
