islandgun
Another question( didn't want to confuse with the last one.) Iv'e been using recipes mostly Alliant and others that don't specify shot size so Iv'e just gone ahead and loaded the size I have to their given weight am I looking for trouble. The loads are all 10 bore using 3s 1s and BB in lead and usually 50-60 gm
sitsinhedges
I think the only relevance is that smaller shot takes up less volume for a given weight due to the smaller voids (interstices) where the individual pellets touch so using a smaller pellet may not fill a case enough or a larger pellet fill one too much for a particular recipe and thus have problems with the crimp needing readjustment for a good finish. kent
Shot size is not relivent (up to a point) volume is 42grm of BBB take up less room that 42grm of no.4. To some degree you can allow a bit extra on the case length if you RTO or less undershot wad if that's in the data. No point in too small a shot in the 10 anyhow you can get one heck of a full pattern using no.2 Sorry just noticed LEAD no knowledge no place I can use it and the ten I am not carrying for foxing Edited December 16, 2013 by kent

fruitloop
I tried my 28g 6shot recipe with 28g of f shot and ended up with lots of unburnt power in the barrel s I think what the problem is that there is large voids in the colum and not letting it seal correct
FatFreddysCat
I think the only time that size would matter is if you had a heavy, low velocity load that required large shot to deliver sufficient energy.
