88b
I've no idea of the belt run on a Suzuki but are you sure it's right, on a lot of Fords what looks right isn't . I alway make a note before taking the belt off. If it's not the belt run it wouldn't need a pulley much smaller to make the belt loose
gav05
The Suzuki Grand Vitara uses a single serpentine drive belt to run all of the engine's accessories, including the radiator fan. The belt uses the power from the crankshaft pulley, located in the lower front of the engine. As the belt ages, it stretches, and when it stretches too much you must loosen the tensioner pulley to tighten the belt or to replace the belt. The Vitara does not have an automatic belt tensioner built into the tensioner pulley. You must manually adjust the pulley, but before you can do that you must loosen it. la bala
does it have a tensioner that is a split pulley, ie, you add or subtract shims to widen or narrow the v in the pulley. if that makes any sense to you

Paul223
Does the alternator move to adjust? Is the belt a multi-groove belt? And if so What colour was the original belt? Edited December 17, 2013 by Paul223
rabbiter
the alternator is on the opposite side mate, adjustment of it would have no effect on p/s pump, not sure what you mean by multigrain, and the belt was/is black, only thing i can think of is that we"ve inadvertantly stretched the belt when removing it,we had to use a small pry bar to lever it off while turning the pulley itself,no wonder it slipped back on without much fuss..going to get a new belt and put it on tomorrow, ill get back with result for those that have helped with their input,thanks.....DAZ ahh, multi groove!! yes mate,4 groove belt. Paul223
Seems a little early for it but some vehicles are fitted with stretch belts, they do not adjust and just stretch into place, when I get on my work lap top I'll have a look
rabbiter
thanks mate,i appreciate it,hope the new one "stretches" into place lol......
gav05
The tensioner is on the pulley have you Tried loosening it and then Shifting the pulley back away then re tighten it. Apparently its a automatic spring tensioner on the pulley that tightens or loosens the belt.its worth a look if the new belt is still slack. rabbiter
theres nowhere for the pump to move to mate, its bolted to a bracket which leaves it in one place permanantly...
Paul223
Yeah I'd be expecting either the pas pump or alt to adjust, auto data is unclear on it and I'm not familiar with them

Lord Geordie
Silly Q but are the pulleys on the OLD P/S pump and the NEW one the same size? Also check the distance from the bolt holes to the centre of the pulley on both!
