pegasus bridge
Hi gents, Does anyone know if this model can be swapped from a right hand wind to a left? Or is it an entirely different model? I picked one up very cheap yesterday, but it is right hand retrieve.
fenboy
No they cannot be swapped , the 6501 is the left handed version
pegasus bridge
Cheers! Thats probably why it was a bargain. I'll put an advert on the swaps section I think, long shot I know - but I just couldn't get used to a right hand wind version.
Dunkield
Right hand wind is actually the more common so you shouldn't have any trouble selling it on. Like you I prefer the handle on the left like it is with my other reels, but apparently that makes us a little odd. As has been said ABU reels become nnn1 when they are left hand wind. pegasus bridge
I think it would make sense for stationary bait fishing - but for casting with lures it's just a pain as I would be casting then swapping hands over. It's a nice reel though and for what I paid for it I can't grumble.
caeser
Stick an advert on the World Sea Fishing forum, It'll sell in minutes. In case you don't know, it is really a UK based forum.

Try controlling the drag while playing a big fish with left hand wind version its at least twice as hard. I shouldn't fret about swapping hands over lure fishing it encourages a bit a dead sticking which is always good, use it get used to it and you should love it. I think it comes from non-level wind equipped models though, don't think I could manage with a left hand wind on a beach rod laying the line out evenly on the spool during retrieve. A pal of mine said the same thing this afternoon , I might persevere with it for a bit then, just to see. I picked it up for £20! Boxed in as new condition too
