Zetter
Hi All I have just bought a Beretta AL391 synthetic 2nd hand and took it out to try some clays today. To play it safe I took some Gamebore 70mm 28g 7.5 to try on it initially as most semi autos seem to prefer 70mm cartridges but every shot it was jamming due to not ejecting the first cartridge. I also had with me a few Ely First 28g 7.5 that were 65mm and out of 8 shots it cycled these no issues?? This has left me a bit confused as I would from reading up have expected it to have issues with cycling the 65mm not the 70mm cartridges. As I am planning to use this for my primary pigeon shooting gun would it be worth trying a 70mm cartridge with a bit more oomf such as 32g although I was under the impression the AL391 would cycle most stuff down to about 24g? Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers Neil
timps
One of the main problems with the AL 391 not cycling every shot is a bent carrier. Just put in Google "al391 bent carrier" you will find loads of posts on it from replacing the carrier to bending it back. Failing that a good clean can help. I had an issue with mine dismantled it and cleaned it and the problem never came back.
sitsinhedges
If it isn't ejecting the first cartridge maybe it needs cleaning. There is a guide for this on youtube. I've cycled 21gram loads with mine. When was the gas valve etc given a good decoke and the ports cleaned?

This has nothing to do with a bent carrier which expresses itself by ejecting the first cartridge and hooking up the subsequent one on the breech mouth. It seems there isn't enough pressure pushing the bolt back initially here.
humperdingle
Was it particularly cold?
Dekers
The 391 will cycle almost anything you want to put through it, mine even deals with 21g 9 on the skeet. First suggestion is a good strip down, clean and oil, but NO NOT OVERDO the oil.
Zetter
Cheers all It wasn't particularly cold Humperdingle it was today so I would guess the temp was about 8 degrees. I will check out the you tube videos on cleaning and give it a good clean, the gun was second hand it looks fairly clean but the last time it was thoroughly cleaned who knows it came from my local RFD as a second hand gun. sitsinhedges
Don't put any oil anywhere the gases can go or you'll just make a sludge, the front end runs fine dry.
Zetter
Looks like I need to track down a set of the gas valve spanners or something similar as mine didn't come with them and from you guys suggestions I think my first port of call should be the gas ports. Seeing as this came from my local RFD under a three month warranty I will see if they can sort me out with something this week.
Zetter
Cheers for the advice all. In the end it turned out the bolt was a bit dry so with the appropriate but of lube its now cycling nicely. Gas ports were clean but it doesnt look like who owned it before didnt do much to it including cleaning the barrel!
