yep theres one here

cwd

i have someone coming down this monday to stalk a cwd on land i shoot now i have had a few over the years but only ever go out when i need one for the shop and when the weather is fine and dry as that's when i usually see them in the fields but as the weather is looking wet and windy monday my question is where would be the best places to look for them ie will they be in cover there is a few small wooded cop's or in the hedge row's or will they still be out in the fields??

sorry if questions seem a bit daft but don't want this chap driving how ever many miles and not doing my best to find him some sport

the weather we have had lately has been terrible but because the weather has been so bad the deer have accepted it and just have to put up with it , at the end of the day the deer still have to feed

i have found the evenings to be better than mornings but depending on your area you are just as likely to find them laid up in the middle of the field during the day even when its blowing a gale

one thing i will say is if your area has any rape fields theres a good bet the cwd will be feeding on it

the small wooded areas you mentioned will definitely hold them so for the last hour i would be sat up somewhere with a good view and just wait for them to show

best of luck

thanks for that,

yes we do have rape i have quite a few farms i can shoot on some 4/5000 acre but the one i work on is 1000 acre and has 300 acre of rape this year so if we have not found any by say 3.30 ish i shall sit next to the biggest one as it has a 3 acre wood at one end of it,

though a new farm i have just acquired has a 50 acre rape field on it and when out lamping rabbits for the 1st time last saturday i saw 5 cwd around it and did think maybe worth having a look there as the farmer said i can shoot them so long as i make him a venison pie with some of it so that may be better

I'm sure you will find one even if the weather is bad

like i said try and get to your highest point and just scan , one of my areas bordered by a large wood won't really show a cwd till the last hour and then its not unusual to count 20+

good luck and i hope your friend gets a result
