sad news but what I cant understand is how he picked the gun up loaded it and shot himself without been seen I am not saying it would have any difference on the out come but seems strange you can walk in off the street pick a gun up and " play " with it under no supervision.

 

"At 9.40am, police and ambulance services were called to reports a gun had been fired, but were unable to save Mr Belford's life.

A member of staff was there at the time, but it is understood he did not witness the shooting."

every gun shop iv been in the guns are either behind the counter or directly in view of the staff

Every shop I've been in, have been quite happy for you to handle and shoulder the shotguns, break them and peer down the barrels etc. Probably only had to ask for something not immediately to hand, or the phone rang or whatever. It'd only take a few seconds to drop a cartridge in, close it, stick it under your chin and pull the trigger.
