Breakdown Shotgun Cabinets

Just been given permission from my Landlord to install a shotgun cabinet in my cottage. The only feasible place to install the cabinet would be in the cupboard under the stairs so space is limited.

I'm looking to install a cabinet lying flat on the floor bolted into the concrete beneath. The maximum "Height" cabinet I can accommodate is 940mM.

I've been looking at a couple of Brattonsound offerings

Firstly the super flat car one,

and the standard break down one.

I had however also seen the KAL offered by fortify which would give me space for a third gun, which would be desirable.

Does anybody have any experience with any of these cabinets? Or would anybody be able to point me in the direction of another alternative product?

Many thanks,

Alun

Long, I would be fitting any cabinet on it's back on the floor bolted to the concrete, none of the walls are suitable for affixing a cabinet and it's too long for a standard one as far as I can tell. I don't think any standard cabinets I've seen are under 940mm tall/long whatever

The kal one might be best then its cheaper than the autosafe and has more room. Not seen one myself but check the internal dims the 3 gun capacity may be optimistic compared to bratton sound who are generally quite realistic on capacity

Have you looked at DJS and JFC cabinets?

Or these http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/380629712162?cmd=VIDESC&gxo=true

I have a KAL. Bought it so as my collection eventually grows I can refit the shelves which just pop in and out in 10s, and use as a secure storage for carts and valuables. Size wise I am in similar boat with where to put cabinet. 3 guns could fit but I would put gun socks on them to help prevent knocks. 2 more comfortable.

Their is only 2 fixing holes which I wasn't to pleased with. Feel 4 would be more secure. I couldn't be bothered drilling extra holes so used the ones provided and placed against an internal corner to hamper any attack, and is secure enough that my ample frame can't get any play from it. Locks are smooth. My only gripe was the double bit keys seemed a bit roughly put together

Just get a standard 2nd hand 3-4 gun assuming that widh and depth are not an issue and cut it to the length/height you need and weld the top back on.

Anyone with a grinder and mig welder would have it done in half an hour.

I will add a pic of my understairs cabinet later but its along those lines.

I'd hoped for at least four to six mounting holes to be extra safe. Just checked the dimensions and I could have it mounted vertically potentially, with the bolts going through the base. Are there any holes in the base of the KAL?

Hmm I've just looked at the dimensions of the "2 gun (Cased) cabinet" made by Brattonsound, which would easily fit lying flat in the space I have available, and could easily accommodate a number of broken down guns with a little modification (Mutiple layers of egg box foam with plywood spacers attached in between layers. Think an FEO would go for this?

As long as they are inside the cabinet and the cabinet locks the FEO doesn't care how many you squeeze in or how you protect them

Turned up today. Feels solid and looks the part. Only has two mounting holes on the back and two in the base. I think they're supposed to be used in conjuction with each other but for my purposes I may need to drill a couple more just to be safe. Haven't actually opened it up yet. Just checked that it fits into the space that I've allocated for it. Which it does... amazingly.
