tigger got stichs
would the porting on a hushpower barrel further reduce the speed of a round all ready below 1050fps or would there be no negligible difference
remmyman
It shouldn't make any difference as the shot column/wad will be slowing down already from it's peak velocity. Regards remmyman

sitsinhedges
My chronograph tells me it does make a difference and this is one of the reasons why an already subsonic cartridge will be generally poor in a husher. 50 or 100 fps is a lot when the cartridge was only doing 1000 anyway. That's interesting, which one is it,50 or 100fps? Regards remmyman

Regards remmyman Depends on which gun your checking and what cartridge you're putting thru it. What results have your experiments shown? sitsinhedges
I had 2 20gauge o/u hushers, one old and one the newer model. The newer model having less porting in the barrel left me having to drop my powder by 2 grains to get the same speed as with the older one when reloading even though the outer tube was larger. This left me in no doubt that bleeding off the gases does affect muzzle velocity, as does comparing a cartridge thru a husher then a normal unported gun and comparing the results. kent
So the same is true of a GAS op auto and its ports?
Dekers
So the same is true of a GAS op auto and its ports? Why not, it's not something I have spent sleepless nights worrying about, but any escape of gases a few inches up the barrel is going to slow the projectile down to "some" extent! Well to be honest its not a worry just an interest in the techy bit
