Michaeli
Hi guys, Bought the wife a new gun but its a tad on the long side (normal for most of us but she's 5ft1'') and were going to cut it down. Now we did this with the last gun but just bought a jack pike slip on butt padd etc and it worked but seeing as this is a nicer gun i would like to do a proper job. But as im cutting about 1 1/2 - 2 inches off the end of the stock is alot smaller than most aftermaket standerd fit pads so im after one that i can shape my self. Can anyone point me in the direction of a cheapish pad that i can shape. Thanks Michael
welshwarrior
Cheap pad are generally not great IMHO you are better off with either a Kick Eez or an ISIS pad both very good and grind to fit. The nice thing about both those pads they come in various lengths covering 11mm to 28mm between them. 2" off most stocks would make them really quite short for a 5'11" person. May be worth having her dimensions checked! If you near me happy to do it FOC.

kent
A couple of points How might the shortening of it effect her in other aspects of fit? Beware of the metal internals of some pads (they are not seen until you grind a little deeper than the manufacturer expected) Always save the off-cut and old pad

Looking for a pad £15-20 really. We took just over an onch off her last stock (orininal pull was tad over 14 inches and we reduced it to 13) and this new gun has a pull of about 15 inches. All i know is when shooting her old gun before the cut she was only getting a max of 7 ish on skeet (she's still new and cant twist due to broken back) but once cut down her first time out with it she managed 14 and since not droped below 10 so it worked etc. Michael

We wont be sure untill we (i) cut it. I know what you mean about the internals, one we looked at once cut would have shown the honey combe inside etc. This is not an expensive gun at all (£200) Larona double trigger etc but she likes it (more for looks i think) just need to get cut so she can try it etc. Michael

Offer is there if you can get Lichfield way, also experience with people carrying injuries backs aren't to hard triple amputees are a bit of an issue especially with foot work! I would agree as im 6ft and my guns are 14 1/2 pull. But as in the first post she is 5ft 'one' so 13 inches is about right. But yes i agree a fitting would be great and if we were closer i would have taken you up on your kind offer. Michael
PhilR
OP wrote 5ft 1" not 5ft 11". Agree only worthwhile pads are Kickeez or Isis. Given pads of equal size the Isis will be much lighter than the Kickeez. However, if you're hacking 2" or more off the end of the stock you'll affect the balance of the gun so might need to put weight back into the stock which the Kickeez will help to do. The other thing shortening the stock will do, unless it's a parallel comb, is to increase the height of your wife's eye above the rib. A generalisation is that women normally need a higher comb than men, so the chop may well help.
HDAV
In my opinion the Isis is a better pad recoil wise but the mass if the kickeez will help rebalance the stock. They do come up used from time to time so keep an eye out on eBay etc
