matone
Measured some old Grand Prix and Maximum 12g empties,2 1/2" / 65mm on boxes ,cases 70mm.
wymberley
In the 70`s & early 80`s the cases were longer than the marked length.Eley just loaded them to the relevent pressure. Zillions were used with no problems,so don`t worry about it all ! I still have a few boxes of 12g Grand Prix and Maximum loaded like this. Memory is fading and I was out of the country for a lot of that time but the more I think about it, I do seem to believe that is the case (no pun intended) and I'm now beginning to remember that I queried this on my return to the UK at the time. Measured some old Grand Prix and Maximum 12g empties,2 1/2" / 65mm on boxes ,cases 70mm. Yep, the figure on the box is the minimum chamber size for the box contents. matone
You would have thought the case crimp in the forcing cones would have affected patterns with actual 2 1/2 " chambers,it obviously all worked ok though !

Yep, not to mention the pressures which as you say must have been reduced. Needed a change in precautions too; 'Never attempt to fire a 23/4" cartridge in a 2/12" chamber UNLESS the cartridge is made by ELEY'. wigeon jim
I first noticed this a long time ago where the 16g Eley box stated for 2 1/2 in chambers but the cases were 2 2/3 in when fired, Do not use these in a short chambered guns full stop! To be fair, when these were sold ,you could only buy Eley or Three Crowns at most places !

And if your gun wasn't British, it was an AYA and if you thought you had an over/under, you were holding it wrong!
