kent
6 months membership and regular attendance at a club? before the committee will sponsor an application normally. Target shooting is not an easy way into an FAC . "Want to shoot" is not part of it its "good reason to shoot" even as regards target shooting and yes for 6 guns you need six good reasons
Brad93
If you have a genuine need for an rifle. I.e. The humane dispatch of vermin at ranges exceeding that of an air rifle, then that would be the most sensible route to take. FAC are not given out and are by no means easy to get. Each calibre you apply for will need a valid reason. As said by Kent, if you put in straight away for many calibre a you are going to get turned down. Similarly you are unlikely to get granted any centrefire first time out without valid reason or experience. It sounds like you have no idea what calibre you require or much knowledge at all about firearms.

ppaynter
Yes you are correct I don't have much knowledge that's why I'm asking the question but a lot of my permissions are rabbit and foxes so I'm looking at a all rounder for both I am happy to learn that's why I said go do some target shooting and get some lessons
matty thud
Don't you you have any friends or no anybody with fac ticket that could show you the ropes and be your mentor to get you your fac preferably with an open ticket so could shoot on your permissions with owners concent? thepasty
In contrast I found the FAC quite easy to acquire, I showed good reason as being vermin but also that I wanted to live off the land more (FEO was happy with this in the interview), I had permission, got the references and a few months later it popped through the door. Was that a open ticket or did you have to be specific
neillfrbs
you just got to have good reason. I myself have had a sgc for 25 years ,and put in for a 22lr 17hmr for rabbits ,223 for fox and 243 for deer. feo came around had a talk granted the lot ,only with the 243 had to do a dsc1 ,which I have now done . if you don't ask you don't get. The hornet wont moderate as well as a .22 LR but pretty much equals the HMR on noise allowing the fact that its able to use a bigger better moderator. Rimfires should not be classed as a suitable fox rifle for other than specialist uses but if you absolutely had to go one gun and rf only I should say .22WMR is as good as it gets for a foxing rimfire
Brad93
Ah right i see. If you're ever over in Essex you're welcome to come round on of my permissions and I'll show you the basics. Personally i would say a .22LR for rabbits and a .223 or .23 hornet for foxes. I'm planning to get a hornet for foxes at some points Edit: Kents advice above is about as sound as it gets. wyatt
Can You tell more about this please: live off the land more. You get some land, you live off what you find on it. Not much more too it than that!
